Here's Henry, Flora and me getting ready to go out with the cart - the photo is taken from Tim's hot air balloon! He meant to take a picture of the house (which is the opposite way...), but what a tricky thing to operate a camera stuck to a balloon which is drifting away swiflty in the morning breeze. A steep learning curve....
And for us, we've been learning how to negotiate: a tractor with silage cutting gear attached, a lorry with haylage bales, two motorbikes, several bicyclists, numerous cars, a truck with a trailerload of lobster pots, the Bantry-Glengarriffe bus, a few viciously barking dogs and loads of horse flies. All on our way from home to Snave Pier where Flora and Henry enjoyed a rest in the shade and I went for a paddle in the sea - very cold!
It is remarkable how brilliantly Flora manages trotting alongside Herny in the cart, not shifting one bit whatever she meets. She clearly takes Henry as an example who is just a star! Flora is growing up in a safe place.
On the line of growing...our triticale is doing not terribly bad but actually surprisingly ok. But the harrowing after the first green showed in May didn't quite work out, as the photo show: left is not harrowed, right is harrowed. One can clearly see the difference in growth. Well, we are only beginners when it comes to growing grains, and luckily, we don't have to rely on our harvest! All we need is a bit more sunshine, and we may even be able to harvest a couple of handfulls...
