Demonstrations
To promote the use of the work horse in modern small scale farming and horticulture, we do Work Horse Demonstrations at a number of events every year.

Above, you see Henry, Tim and myself earthing potatoes at the Open Day of the Brown Envelope Seeds Farm this June.
On a windy October day we came back to the Brown Envelope Seeds Farm to harvest the potatoes, this time with both Henry and Winnie, as the splitting of the ridges and digging up of the potato plants required more horse power.
A crew of eager helpers had turned up to help pick the potatoes and take them off the field and into the barn to dry.

It was another great day out with the horses, and despite the damp conditions and strong winds, both horses managed the job beautifully.
As "thank you" they were allowed to graze on the lush pasture next to the potato plot whilst all humans had a cup of tea in the barn.

At this year's Bantry Agricultural Show - the first time in many years, work horses were given the stage again!
Private Tuition
On request, I also offer one-to-one teaching to people who would like to learn to work with horses in a smaller setting.
This can take place either on our small holding with our work horses, or - if you have a horse you would like to start working with - I can come to your place and work with you and your horse there.

Talks and presentations
For community groups, initiatives, projects etc. who are keen to find out more about working with horses or who would like to include the matter of working horses as part of an open day etc., I offer a 60 minute talk and slide show.
I cover the history of working with animals, the development of different work horse breeds, the impact of the change-over to fuel power on work horses, the use of work horses in modern times in the light of peak oil.

Farm and forestry services
We offer services to the small scale farmer or woodland owner, such as logging in the woods, shifting firewood, harrowing, ploughing, potato planting, earthing and harvesting, row crop maintenance.
If you are looking for an alternative way to fuel-powered rotavating and tractor work or manual labouring, then horse-powered farm and forest work offers itself as a low-impact low-input option.

Heritage in Schools Scheme
The aim of the Heritage in Schools Scheme run by the Irish National Teachers' Organistation is to engage children in creative learning about their shared heritage.
In our case, we offer a programme for school children aged 6 to 12, engaging them in learning about working horses in rural Ireland of days gone by - at the same time attempting a link to the present where the horse can still be an active working partner in farming, forestry and transport.
We visit schools for the day, offering a range of activities around working horses and rural life, and if feasable, will bring along one of our working horses to meet and greet!
