Daisy is a week old now and starting to explore the world a bit more. She's considering us humans as potential friends, and definitely Henry! All horses are happily together in the big field. Winnie came into season again on Friday and Henry sure was interested. All going well, this would mean an earlier foal next year.....we'll see.
Yesterday morning, in the bright sunshine, amongst the first little flowers poking up through the green grass, Winnie finally decided to foal. She is a very proud mum to her little filly foal Daisy. Check out the photo on "About our horses" page!
What a fantastic day we had, the hottest this year. Great to be able to get to the bog field again, now that the mud is drying out, to shift some stones with Henry and the cart and fill those potholes.
Still no foal yet. Winnie has cravings for grass...if it only grew a bit faster!
Finally, spring has arrived! The swallows are back, the grass has started growing again and the earth is drying out.
Time to think about putting the last of the seed potatoes into the ground and harrowing the big field to prepare a seed bed for carrots, turnips and oats.
Winnie is very close to foaling, any day now by the looks of her belly and udder!
