This year, we were part of the West Cork College of Sustainable Food Production which was held on various different farms around West Cork, including Brown Envelope Seeds Farm, from 13th to 17th June.
So, last Friday afternoon, the participants of this Summer School gathered to learn about working with horses in small scale farming, a workshop held by Tim and me. This was followed by a demonstration in the potato field, where Henry - with no apparent effort at all - pulled the plough along the trenches, earthing up the potatoes in no time. People where impressed about the effectiveness of using horse power for this task, which is rather labour-some when done by hand.
Whilst Henry enjoyed the crunchy June grass growing along the edge of the field, we all sat down in the wonderful sunshine to discuss the pros and contras of horse power.
